Launch party recap to mark the final countdown to the conference!

With only 7 days left until the annual conference, we can hardly contain our excitement at the TEDxUofG HQ! Therefore, we thought a wee throwback to our Launch Party is the perfect way to mark the countdown to the conference!

As you may have heard/seen/read around campus, we had our Launch Party at QMU with a guest list of over 100 people! To say that we were buzzing to see all aspiring TEDx fellows would be a total understatement!

All the preparations ranging from venue booking to inviting speakers, printing posters and spreading the word about the Launch paid off the moment we saw the entire venue full of excited faces waiting impatiently for the night to start!

Our host Dan made the opening address and the event kicked off with our first spoken word poet Bibi June. Bibi spoke about the power of language and how it is intertwined with the meaning of revolution. We would like to thank Bibi for taking us with her into the world of poetry and making us reflect upon truly relevant topics.

Our second spoken word poet Ellen Renton made an outstanding impact with her poetry which carried the message: ”Don’t make me a war poet”. And, indeed, we believe each and every one of our guests could relate in their own way to what Ellen was saying.

Thank you Ellen for your amazing performance!

The evening continued with a break in which some of our guest dived into the world of Virtual Reality with VRoom Glasgow and others put their ”One Step Further” on the world map poster we printed with the assistance of Student Printing Glasgow (a huge thank you goes to our Marketing Coordinator Joanna for bringing the massive poster along)!

The night continued with Dougal Campbell – a lecturer at the University of Glasgow who explained the importance of talking about politics in the light of recent political changes in the USA and around the world.

Dougal was then followed by the lovely Kaye Smith who brilliantly spoke about the importance of finding our purpose.

The last talk of the evening introduced us to a truly great cause initiated by United Glasgow F.C. – Glasgow’s most universally accepting football community!

We truly enjoyed the amazing performances of our guest speakers, but the evening was not over! The amazing Glasgow Vet Ceilidh Band kindly agreed to play for us throughout the evening and even taught us in no time how to play ceilidh dances! We totally loved both their performance and the amazing atmosphere they created!

The night ended with the announcement of the 2 lucky Facebook competition winners that got VIP tickets for the ”One Step Further” conference which is now coming in less than a week time (repeating ourselves due to the excitement kicking in!)! Our brilliant Project Manager Moa made the closing speech and the ceilidh dances began. And the rest is history…
